Title: Gardens of Friendship, 2020

Participants: 430 students and staff members of Westmoor Elementary School.

Our team: Sonata Kazimieraitiene, Artist in Residence; Heather Havlicek, Art Teacher; Westmoor PTO.

Materials: Hand shaped ceramic tile, high fire porcelain, commercial tile.

Dimensions: 2 panels 4.5’ x 15’ each

Design Concept: These two panels of abstract landscape are designed to represent community as a whole. Each participant created multiple ceramic flowers in a shape of circle during the art classes. Artist in resident Sonata spent 3 weeks working with students and staff members helping to create ceramic elements for the mosaic. Later multicolored “flowers” where arranged into the naturally flowing and beautiful “gardens”.
